FAQ

How does inference infrastructure differ from training infrastructure?

Inference serves an already trained model in response to requests. Training updates model parameters. The workloads have different latency, utilization and cost constraints.

Why does GPU utilization matter for model serving?

Idle accelerator capacity still costs money. Scheduling, batching and matching hardware to demand can change serving economics without changing the underlying model.

What does cold-start latency mean for serverless inference?

It is the delay while capacity and model weights are prepared for a request. Evaluate it separately from response time once a deployment is warm.

Does Baseten’s financing reveal its inference revenue?

A financing amount describes capital raised. It is not a disclosure of revenue, customer spending or gross margin.

Why are token prices insufficient for comparing inference providers?

Model quality, latency targets, context length, throughput and reliability affect the practical cost of serving an application.

How should developers test a managed model-serving platform?

Use representative traffic and measure tail latency, failures, scaling behavior and total cost under realistic concurrency.
